Nathan Smith

Nathan Smith is an orchestral and choral conductor based in the North West of England. He is thrilled to have been appointed Conductor of Burnley Orchestra. Nathan holds roles as Director of Chapel Choir at Rossall School, Artistic Director and founder of Occento Choir, and Musical Director of the LGN Community Choir which is based in Newton-Le-Willows. 

Currently he is privately studying with Sian Edwards. Nathan has also assisted Helen Harrison at Blackpool Symphony Orchestra and, more recently, Preston Opera. 

Nathan is also a répétiteur at Preston Opera and has accompanied productions with Savoynet and Peak Opera at Buxton Opera House. 

He studied music at Durham University and achieved First-Class honours. In his final year he conducted Elijah in Durham Cathedral and won the following awards: ‘Best Musical Director,’ ‘Best Concert’ and a ‘lifetime achievement award for services to music at Durham University.’ 

In 2022 Nathan completed a research MA on the later romantic style of Sir Arthur Sullivan which prompted the following comment: ‘There is little doubt that this work will contribute considerably to the ongoing rehabilitation of Sullivan’s operas’.
